My Discovery of Daily Inspiration: Fork Ranger
With my smartphone in hand, I was numbly scrolling through Instagram. The train ride would still last a bit, but not long enough to make it worth digging out my book from the bottom of my backpack. I scrolled past meaningless memes and pictures until I suddenly saw a direct message from a friend. The content was from an account called Fork Ranger, with around 42,000 followers.
In front of my eyes was a huge variety of videos and graphs that explained, in simple language, how our food choices impact the environment. Over 700 posts shared information about carbon footprints and other statistical facts related to food and sustainability. It’s the work of Mareike Brühl and Frank Holleman, two passionate individuals from the Netherlands who started this initiative. I was instantly fascinated. As I scrolled through the content, I found illustrated videos using LEGO that clearly explained the kind of complexity I often try to break down for others when talking about the insights from my Master’s studies.
Linked in their profile, I found the website and continued my journey of discovery. Fork Ranger has an appealing website with a webshop that sells their products, such as a seasonal calendar and a cookbook. There are also blog posts and links to inspiring videos and other sources of knowledge.
What makes Fork Ranger special is its ability to break down the complex topic of food into easy-to-understand messages. One of my favorites is their summary of a sustainable life:
Less meat – More plants
Less flying – More adventure
Less stuff – More memories
It’s not about renunciation; it’s about changing behavior and finding new solutions. I love the simplicity and the positivity of it. I believe that this is exactly the spirit we need to achieve meaningful change.
For everyone who finds this initiative as inspiring as I do, I have more good news:
Fork Ranger also has a free app, where you can answer daily quiz questions on sustainability and food. By doing so, you unlock new sustainable recipes.
With my smartphone still in hand, I stopped scrolling aimlessly. The train ride wasn’t over yet, so I had just enough time to open the Fork Ranger app and learn some insightful facts about food and the environment. I scrolled through engaging information and images, and I hope this blog post inspires others to begin their journey toward making a big impact through small steps.
If you’re feeling inspired, Fork Ranger is a fun and easy way to get started.
